MESSAGE OF H.E. AMBASSADOR ENRIQUE A. MANALO ON THE OCCASION OF OF THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF EDSA PEOPLE POWER
On this day, 25 years ago, hundreds of thousands of Filipinos, armed only with prayers and rosaries, came to EDSA to take a nonviolent stand for freedom, democracy and justice.
For the first time, Filipinos of different backgrounds came together as one and with a desire to put the country on a new path.
It was four glorious days in our history, something we should never forget.
EDSA reminds us of how extraordinary we can be because what we accomplished during those four days was in every way extraordinary.
Nevertheless, we have an obligation to sustain and improve upon these accomplishments.
Filipino expats, especially those living in Europe, have an important role to play in this regard. As we observe and absorb the best qualities of the societies we live and work in we, in turn, gain an opportunity to share these experiences with our kababayans here and in the Philippines.
The theme of our celebration is "Pilipino ako - Ako ang lakas ng pagbabago", is a call for us to become instruments of constructive and beneficial change. We can contribute to the further strengthening of our society, so that we can fulfill and achieve more fully the promise that was EDSA.
As a community we should remember the lessons of EDSA, particularly how we can promote beneficial change for the country - both for now and for succeeding generations.
At the end of the day, that is what I believe EDSA stands for.
Let us be extraordinary. Let us live up to our full potential .
Mabuhay ang Pilipinas.
