BPE_welcomesPH Embassy in Belgium Welcomes Ambassador Bataclan's Arrival, Holds Maiden Planning Meeting with Embassy Officials

Brussels, 10 October 2011 - Newly-appointed Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Head of the Philippine Mission to the European Union H.E. Victoria S. Bataclan has arrived in Brussels to assume her post.

Ambassador Bataclan was welcomed at the Brussels International Airport by the Philippine Embassy officials led by Minister and Consul General Marichu B. Mauro. Ambassador Bataclan was also treated to a warm welcome by the rest of the staff and colleagues from the attached agencies who were all waiting at the lobby of the Embassy with a bouquet of flowers ready to be offered upon her arrival from the airport.

At the Embassy, Minister and Consul General Mauro introduced each of the personnel to Ambassador Bataclan. Everyone proceeded afterwards at the Library Room to complete the welcome reception wherein a simple merienda was prepared and wine toasting was tendered.

Ambassador Bataclan thanked everyone for the warm reception.  She also took the opportunity to brief everybody of the highlights of the Embassy/Mission Work Plans and the various meetings she had undertaken with key government officials before she left the Philippines concerning Philippines-Belgium, Philippines-Luxembourg and Philippines-European Union relations in general.

The Embassy is currently working on the schedules of Ambassador Bataclan's presentation of credentials to King Albert II of Belgium, Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, and European Commission President José Manuel Barroso.

Prior to this assignment, Ambassador Bataclan was the Assistant Sectary for the Office of ASEAN Affairs in the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs.  Her present tour of duty is expected to consolidate and expand mutual cooperation with Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union. - END
