Ambassador Bataclan Calls on Major Officials of the Belgian Foreign Ministry

Brussels, 11 October 2011- The newly-appointed Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium H.E. Victoria S. Bataclan paid courtesy call on the Belgian Chief of Protocol, Ambassador Pierre Labouverie, to hand deliver the copy of her Letter of Credence to His Majesty King Albert II of Belgium.

During the courtesy call, the two officials exchanged views on the current situation in the Philippines and Belgium. They also shared ideas on how to strengthen Philippines-Belgium relations given that there exist many opportunities for growth between the two countries.

Ambassador Bataclan informed Ambassador Labouverie of Philippine exports to Belgium such as carrageenan, processed food and furniture, and current measures to diversify Philippine exports.  In addition, she mentioned about the Philippine efforts to increase Business Process Outsourcing with Belgian companies given that the Philippines is a major BPO. Ambassador Labouverie expressed delight over this information and said that he would be interested to know more about the Philippines and expressed the hope of visiting the country one day.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Bataclan also paid courtesy call on Ambassador Bertrand De Crombrughhe, Head of the Asian Desk, and concurrently Head of the Office on Asia-Europe Meetings (ASEM) Matters, of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 19 October 2011.

The two officials discussed the following ongoing projects between the Philippines and Belgium and updated each other on the status of these projects, including the efforts being made to move these forward:

  • The recently-initialed "Philippines-Belgium Joint Action on Fields of Mutual Interest"
  • The proposed "Philippines-Flanders Memorandum of Understanding on Energy and/or Environmental Cooperation"
  • The "Philippines-Belgium Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty"
  • The proposed "Philippines-Belgium Transfer of Sentenced Persons Agreement" - END
