Philippine Ambassador Victoria S. Bataclan Welcomes "Powerdance" to Belgium
14 July 2012 - Her Excellency Victoria S. Bataclan, Philippine Ambassador to Belgium, welcomed "Powerdance," the country's renowned and premier jazz and modern dance company, which performed at the Passage 44 Auditorium in Brussels on 14 July 2012.
The group, founded in 1988 by its talented and multi-awarded Artistic Director and Choreographer, Mr. Douglas Nierras, impressed its audience of Filipinos, Dutch and Belgians, by showcasing their all-Filipino repertoire of interpretative dances. Their dances, one of Mr. Nierras' masterpieces, were inspired by the theme "Dancing with a Heart and Soul".
In her remarks before the show, Ambassador Bataclan commended the group, in particular Mr. Nierras, for their efforts in helping raise cultural awareness among Filipinos overseas and promoting Philippine Contemporary Art Dance to the European audience. She encouraged everyone to support the group by watching them perform while in Europe.
This is the second time that the group is performing in Europe. The Powerdance performed in Gent, Belgium on 11 July. After their performance in Brussels, the group is scheduled to perform in Luxembourg on July 21st.The Powerdance' series of shows in Gent, Brussels and Luxembourg were sponsored by the Filipino community spearheaded by Ms. Teresita Ramirez Cuizon, Mr. Tom Siman and Mr. Gaudencio Manalo.
