AN EVENING OF FILIPINO MUSIC
07 November 2012, Brussels - Two exceptional Filipino artists had agreed to showcase the best of Philippine music together through a one-night performance at the prestigious Concert Hall of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
The concert entitled "An Evening of Filipino Music" featured the world-renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers (The Madz) and Brussels-based pianist Michael Lao Cu. The Madz' repertoire was composed of traditional folk songs and Original Pilipino Music (OPM) while that of Mr. Cu included Filipino classics created by the likes of National Artists Francisco Buencamino, Nicanor Abelardo and Francisco Santiago.
Philippine Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg H.E. Victoria S. Bataclan commended the Madz and Mr. Cu for this welcome collaboration that highlighted Filipino talent par excellence. In her remarks, she said, "It is truly an honor to be the Philippine Ambassador when you are given the opportunity to introduce such exquisite Filipino performing artists. They are the true Ambassadors promoting our culture and winning the hearts of audiences worldwide."
With the support of the Philippine Embassy, the concert was jointly undertaken by the Filipino Chaplaincy Center in Brussels and Mr. Cu himself. It was a benefit concert whose proceeds were intended for donation to the "Development Fund for Filipino Artists in Belgium and Luxembourg," the goal of which was harnessing locally available Filipino talents for promotion of Philippine performing arts and culture in Belgium and Luxembourg.Brussels was Madz's last leg in its European concert tour that started last August. On the other hand, this was Mr. Cu's second in the conservatory where he graduated with a Master of Arts in Piano with Distinction.
