BELGIAN GOVERNMENT SENDS EMERGENCY AID TO THE PHILIPPINES
The Philippines have been hit by the typhoon ' Haiyan'. There is a heavy toll. Belgium decided today to send emergency aid to the Philippines.The international community received yesterday night a request for assistance from the Philippine authorities.
This morning, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders called in, as part of his functions of President of B-FAST, the planning committee, in order to analyze our abilities to help, depending on the needs.It has been decided today to send a B-FAST team to the Philippines. This team will include around 40 people, mostly medical staff. The B - FAST team will provide a campaign hospital and a water purification unit.
The team will stay on the premises for maximum 10 days. The Ministry of Defense puts a A330 at disposal in order to ensure transport directly to the affected area.
Minister Reynders hopes that our country's aid will help to meet, at least partly, the most urgent needs of the affected population.
He offers his sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims and to the Philippine government. He wishes a lot of courage to the Philippine people in these hard times.
