PHILIPPINE FLAG DISPLAYED AT THE CITY HALL OF SPA.
The Philippine flag is proudly displayed at the city hall of Spa, Belgium as an expression of friendship and solidarity between the two countries. It was raised on 15 December 2015 and will stay hoisted until mid-January 2016.
As a gesture of hospitality, the mayor of Spa also welcomed Vice Consul Oliver Delfin and the Filipino communities of Spa and the neighboring areas at a night reception in the city hall on 19 December 2015.
As part of the year-end season events in Spa, Filipinos in the area also participated on 18 to 20 December 2015 in putting up a chalet at the main square of the city. The Philippine chalet at the traditional Christmas market (Marché de Noël des Villes Jumelées et Associations) sold Philippine products like San Miguel and Red Horse beers, Tanduay rhum, fruit juices, dried mangoes, tablea and freshly-cooked favourite lumpia. Civic leader Jean-Francois Fontaine assisted the city officials and Filcom in these activities.
Meanwhile, on January 3, 2016, the Filipino community will sponsor an Epiphany Mass celebration at the Notre-Dame & Saint-Remacle Church with the Filipino Catholic Community Choir (Liege) at 10am. Lunch will be served. This gesture and the people-to-people contacts between Filipinos and Belgians augur well for the 70th year commemoration in 2016 of Philippine-Belgian diplomatic relations.
