|PH Statements on the Attacks in Brussels|
Statement of Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda
[Delivered on March 23,2016]
The Aquino administration, together with the entire Philippine nation, stands in solidarity with the Belgian people after the reported attacks on numerous locations in Brussels. Such senseless acts of violence that specifically target innocent people are the very definition of cowardice, and have no place in any civilized society.
During times of great challenge, Belgium has never failed to extend its support and kindness to the Filipino people. In the same spirit of friendship, we share in the sorrow of those who have lost loved ones; our administration is likewise in full support of the Belgian government and its people as they recover from these tragedies and pursue justice for the victims.
The Philippines, along with its many partners in the international community, will continue working to make such acts of extremism a thing of the past.
Letter to Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders from Secretary Jose Rene D. Almendras
It is with great sorrow that I write to you under the tragic circumstances Belgium is going through.
On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of the Philippines, I would like to express my deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims of the horrific attacks on Belgium. We stand in solidarity with the people of Belgium during this hour of grief and mourning.
The Philippines steadfastly condemns these senseless and barbaric acts and remains firmly committed to the international community's common fight against terrorism and extremist violence.
Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.
JOSE RENE D. ALMENDRAS
