FILIPINOS IN BELGIUM CELEBRATE SINULOG FESTIVAL
15 January 2017 - The Sint Franciscus Church in Antwerp was filled with hundreds of Filipino devotees and Belgian friends at the celebration of Sinulog 2017 on Sunday afternoon. This event was organized by the Filipino Catholic Community of Antwerp (FCCA) headed by Mr. Tony Guansing. Mr. Guansing is also the Philippine Honorary Consul in Antwerp.
The celebration started with the traditional and ritual dance in honor of Sr. Sto. Niño by the members of the FCCA. The holy mass was concelebrated by Fr. Jorgedy Bago, a Filipino Chaplain for Seafarers, and Fr. Robert Godding, SJ.
The Philippine Embassy, led by Chargé d’Affaires Alan Deniega, participated in the event. CDA Deniega noted in his message to the members of the Filipino community that, “Sinulog is not just a local festival for Cebu but also represents our strength of faith as Catholics and symbolizes our unity with Europe.” He also thanked the organizers for holding a very traditional religious festival even in such a far place as Belgium.
Just like any fiestas in the Philippines, an extravaganza of food and drinks were shared afterwards. END
